Desolate is a self-portrait taken from photographic artist, Jaeda DeWalt's, Desolate series and is a part of the DeWalt Gallery collection.
How this image was created: For the background i used an image i shot while vacationing at Ocean Shores, Washington. The half wall i got from the interior of a modern office building. I shot the legs and faces in my studio, using a digital camera and remote-controlled shutter release. I then fused these images together in Adobe Photoshop.
ABOUT THIS IMAGE: the meaning: This is a deeply personal image for me, symbolizing the shame and silent suffering associated with surviving childhood abuse and all the unspeakables that go along with that.
I had to wade through the darkness, to come out into the light. I am happy to say ive arrived at a good place in my healing journey. This image, my words, they reflect a time and place, when things were very dark and the pain was difficult to navigate. Pain is a predator, if you run from it, it will hunt you down, face it and it will move through you . . . eventually. --------------------------------------------------
DESOLATE
The downward spiral brings with it A vast emotional void Desolate, barren
Faces that will not reveal Mouths that will not speak Of this sad and isolated place
The origins are unclear The duration unknown Quicksand for the soul
This is really cool. I was looking for successful self-portraits for research for my cmpa proj. Definately using it (as research only of course). I think this is amazing
